After seniors are accepted into and commit to a college there are important tasks that must be completed over the summer before they arrive to campus. Staying on track will make the transition to college much easier and ensure there are no problems along the way.

Once seniors accept their spots at a university and pay the tuition and/or housing deposits they must get ready for their freshman year of college. This includes completing any online pre-orientation programs that guide them through the large amount of paper work and forms, and provide information on registration. If a college does not offer such a program then checking their website for important dates and information is vital. Students will also need to finalize their housing, whether on campus or off campus, which will require filling out several forms and providing additional financial information. Health forms and requirements must also be met through submission of immunization records and medical history. Many colleges have online platforms where students will register for classes in the fall; students must create accounts for access. Registration may also include academic advising or other requirements. Staying on top of registration is important since many colleges have first come first served policies regarding who gets the classes they request.

The financial aspect of the pre-college process is a large one. Students and parents will have to set up accounts and pay tuition, fees, and housing costs. Some colleges may also request that private scholarships be reported, which may impact financial aid.

There are many things to consider and work on over the summer before the freshman year of college. Managing it well will reduce stress and make the adjustment significantly easier.
